John Rindlaub, Jr.

John Rindlaub is the founder and leader of BrandWaves Marketing. He brings over 23 years of leadership to solving some of the toughest marketing challenges in the most competitive categories: retail, soft drinks, financial services and airlines. He has held leadership roles with major innovative players like PepsiCo and Citibank, and come-from-behind success stories like Barnes&Noble.com and FleetBoston. He created brands from scratch for breakthrough start-ups like Eos Airlines and ShopLink that redefined transcontinental air travel and the grocery shopping experience.

John's most recent full time role was Chief Marketing Officer of Eos Airlines, where he was hired by the founder and CEO to launch this all-premium class airline flying daily between New York and London. From 2001-2004, he led the corporate marketing function for FleetBoston Financial, including all consumer and small business marketing and database and direct marketing. His responsibilities included all product lines, including deposits, loans, credit cards and investments. Additional roles at Fleet included debit and credit card marketing and customer segment marketing.

Prior to Fleet, John was VP Marketing at Barnes & Noble.com to help lead the company from start-up to public corporation with sales of $360 million.  Prior to Barnes & Noble.com, he led his first start-up, an on line grocery shopping and home delivery company called ShopLink, based outside Boston. He spent time in the mid 90’s at Citibank running the New York retail bank’s brand management and e-banking functions. His early career was spent at Johnson and Johnson, where he helped rescue Tylenol from the second Tylenol crisis in the mid 80’s. At Pepsi-Cola, he enjoyed the challenge of managing many of its largest brands, including Pepsi and Diet Pepsi, and later, new product development. He completed his eight years at Pepsi by heading up marketing for the Middle East division, based in Dubai.

For the past three years, John has been on the Board of Directors of the Marketing Executive Networking Group, the leading organization for senior marketing leaders to share information, make connections and develop professionally. He was a longtime and founding board member of Shop.org the leading e-commerce association. He received his BA from Williams College summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and an MBA with honors from Columbia School of Business. He currently lives in Boston and has three children, Claire (20), Caroline (18), and Andrew (14) and a very big chocolate lab, Oliver. When not working his marketing mojo, he enjoys searching for the perfect wave and the deepest powder.
